This is a lot out of my usual box, and reminded me a lot of my “earlier work.” I loved it. Micah is one of my oldest friends, and when he asked me to photograph his beard for posterity it was an obvious yes. I wanted to do more of a film look, with cooler hues and more grain than usual. We shot during blue hour, and I increased my ISO to let more light and added to the grain. I also messed around with some double exposures (at the end of this set), laying over images from my yard onto the images in camera. I had a lot of fun, and it was nice to go out of the box and do something more me. It brought me back to camera lab days, and has me itching to shoot on actual film again soon. Read More
Senior photography isn’t something I typically advertise for, but am happy to do for the right senior! Alex was so much fun to photograph, she is really down to earth and had me reminiscing of my senior days. It helped she even has some of the same coaches and teachers I did! We decided to do outdoors, and explored Ft. Ebey. She loves to hike and is very active, so the environment fit her perfectly. Here are a few of my favorites from our session:
September is the most insane month of the year for me. I am wrapping up wedding season, school is starting, I have birth classes (new addition this year!) soccer season starts, and fall photo sessions are gearing up. I wouldn’t have it any other way, I love the chaos, usually once it is over, ha! But also in September, happens to be our little Wren Olivia’s birthday. Wren, Wrenny, Wren-o-ben, and whatever superhero or princess she is for the day. She is full of spunk, mischief, and life. She is our nature girl, and also maybe a little bit spoiled as our last little one. I was able to sneak in a few photos on a sunny afternoon just one mere week after her birthday! Here she is frolicking in our backyard:
Hello friends!! End of February already, huh? Beautiful. Today was a great day. Let me tell you. It. SNOWED. Which always brightens my spirits. There is something so magical in the hush created by the snow. I will admit, after I sent the big kids on their way to school, I
climbed back into stayed in my bed and was mighty cozy. I had opened the blinds and was completely content just looking at the snow from my warm bed, snuggled up to Wren and Ryan. And then the sun rays came through the trees, and it was all golden and beautiful… so I quickly bundled up to document the magic.
A couple of years ago, my friend Lorissa and I set up a fun photography project (miss you Lorissa!!) and invited over a couple of local mamas to do this photoshoot. The idea was milk bath sessions, which we had seen pop up here and there in the photography community. The white water with flowers creates a calming, serene setting that is almost magical. It went really well and we all had a lot of fun. Lorissa even took a few of just my daughter Wren and I, when Wren was about 6 months old. The images were so dreamy and magical, I am still so so so in love with mine. Read More
The last day of 2017 was really special for me, my friend Alyssa messaged asking if I was able to go along to help welcome home her husband from his deployment. Alyssa and I not only share the same name, we were pregnant with our last babies at the same time! We even did a refresher birth class together. She is an incredible teacher at Connor’s school, and I love her sweet kids. I was so excited to be asked to photograph their reuniting with Brian.
The Graves family! I love this family, and this was my 4th family session I have done for them, which just makes my heart happy. I know that’s cheesy. Haha. Kim and I work together with the Island Birth Association, and she teaches a variety of birth classes here locally. I would HIGHLY recommend any of her birth classes, super informative and well taught. I believe she has an online series as well. So, let me know if you want the hook up!
We decided this year to shoot indoors for multiple reasons. First and foremost, it was raining. Second, Brian was leaving and it was the last weekend we could do a shoot. Third, I wanted to check out this local new indoor spot. So really, it all worked out great. We went to a newly renovated building downtown on Fidalgo Ave, called The Loft. It’s an up and coming spot, with some awesome new businesses coming in the spring. The light upstairs is gorgeous, and I was excited to do our shoot there. AND it kept us nice and dry.
I seriously could not have asked for a more relaxed and beautiful in home maternity session! Brigitta and Jake (and their cute dog Shippy!) are so sweet. I had a great time getting to know them a little better, as they make their way through the last few weeks of pregnancy. Their connection was beyond incredible, and I’m excited to be there for Brigitta’s labor and see them in action as new parents. If how they treat their sweet fur baby is any indication, they will be perfect parents!
Walking into their home took my breath away. It’s perfectly nestled near Penn Cove, and is just gorgeous. The weather was a little gloomy, but luckily we had decided on an in home session, so it all worked out perfectly. Read More
The Horn Family. OH. my. goodness. Loved this session. The rain. The kids. The parents. The puddles. All of it. Our kids had gone to preschool together, and we have a few mutual friends, so finally connecting was so great. The rain was coming down, but as we Washingtonians like to call it, was only a small drizzle. Easy to handle, and it made all of the greenery around pop. I really wanted this to be as easy of a session as could be. Just the family adventuring around my yard, some fun interactions, and really just fun in general. This was exactly what I had in mind. Their oldest boys had so much energy that it was easy to let them guide what we did. Their sweet little daughter was shy, but so cute. And the way she clutched her little Darth Vader, you guys, so perfect. I just loved it all. Here are the few of my favorites: Read More
Wow, my first 2017 post!! It is kind of surreal that it’s almost a month into the new year already. Anyways, onto the amazing Tyhuis family! I have known Brian since I was in elementary school, watching him run with my older brother and hear endless stories of their shenanigans. It has been fun to move back to the island and get to know him and his insanely talented, hilarious, and gorgeous wife Kirsten and their sweet kids. I am a lucky lady that they agreed to get in front of my camera.
This family is so great, seriously.
I messaged Kirsten about a date for our session, and she immediately said “What about tomorrow?” So before I knew it, we had everything set up and were ready to go! Such a breeze. I am alway a little intimidated shooting other photographers (Brian & Kirsten are super talented) but they were fantastic to work with and we made an awesome team. And the kiddos were so comfortable in front of the camera AND got along so perfectly. Dream. Session. Read More
